“Thy Will Be Done” The Trey Uetrecht story

The 30-minute film tells the story of the former Ball State Football player, who on the night of Feb. 10, 2019, drove his Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck fro

m his native Oregonia, Ohio, a town northeast of Cincinnati, back to Muncie after a weekend at home.

Uetrecht hit a patch of black ice and crashed into a tree. First responders on the scene thought Uetrecht had died — or would soon — after their arrival.

“Everyone in life will go through adversity of some sort,” Uetrecht said. “Just know God creates his toughest soldiers through life’s hardest battles.

“No matter what life throws at you, one of the few things you can control is your attitude when opposition and adversity strikes. With faith, support and mental toughness, you can get through anything.”

The film, produced during Spring 2022 by Faith Denig and Peyton Monnell, features multiple interviews, footage from the crash scene and Uetrecht Farms in Oregonia.

Uetrecht served as a co-producer on the project, marking the first film also co-produced by a student-athlete.

“Trey is one of the toughest guys you will ever learn about,” Denig said. “His story is the type to inspire and move all kinds of people. When I learned about what happened to Trey, and what he went through after the accident, I knew right away this was a story to share with the world.”

The near-death experience and resulting injuries will keep Uetrecht from playing football again, but he’s still on the sidelines at Scheumann Stadium in a defensive coaching role with the Cardinals.

While the Sports Link film will make its online premiere May 25 at 8 p.m., the documentary will also get linear television coverage this summer, including July 9 at 9 p.m. on Ball State PBS/WIPB-TV.
